Planning Installfest, etc
From: "Greg Laudeman, Ed.D. Via chugalug" ------------------------------------------------------ Could we meet sometime soon to plan the Installfest? I'm very flexible on days/times but will be out Friday. FYI, our initial meeting of the first "Let's Learn Linux" study group will be Wednesday, June 10, 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Francis B. Wyatt Community Center in North Chattanooga. -- Greg Laudeman, Ed.D. *Executive Officer and Principal* Eduity, LLC www.eduity.net greg@eduity.net 706-271-5521=============================================================== From: Michael Harrison Via chugalug ------------------------------------------------------ Greg: Could we meet sometime soon to plan the Installfest? Am in serious working geek mode until Friday, then going to B-Sides Nashville. Haven't made it to the Library or aany other good place for such an event for normal peeps. Gotta figure out a location and other options. There seems to be a couple of differing agendas with different goals. My initial goal is 10-20 typical Windows users with laptops or portable-ish systems that would like to try to migrate from Windows. Students? Things that get mired down about: Backups. Online accounts with passwords stored in browsers (including the email that would be used to recover such..).. Liability for lost licenses to software/OS/Apps... and and.. Almost down to just handing out USB drives that run stand-alone with some storage space for personal stuff so people can try it. It's slow that way, but works. Conundrums abound.

=============================================================== From: Aaron welch Via chugalug ------------------------------------------------------ Happy to separate the swap meet portion to simplify things. My logic was that it could bring more people to the event and or get things for the event. Just got off the phone with the library and the fourth floor is open to either event along with the first floor auditorium. If it was me leading the charge, I would do installfest downstairs along with some cool Linux presentations from the stage. Show people all the cool stuff you can do with a basic Linux install all the way up to more unique things like AI, 3D modeling, and server functionality all for free! Just my 2 cents. Happy to help with anything, but unable to lead anything at this point. =============================================================== From: Aaron welch Via chugalug ------------------------------------------------------ I called Jason Sullivan, but have not heard back so I reached out to the 4th floor directly. They said anyone can reserve the room for free so long as they have a library card. They also have tables and chairs to use as well. Happy to help coordinate the swap meet and recycling portion of the event. Mike, are you good with this direction?
