RHCSA Exam

------------------------------------------------------

All,

I am sitting for my RHCSA exam on Friday. It will be a remote exam =
since the nearest testing center for Red Hat is in Charleston SC.

I have taken two practice tests. The first went decently well, and I =
was fairly confident afterward. The second one went sideways in more =
ways than one and now I=E2=80=99m not sure if it=E2=80=99s time to =
panic.

I=E2=80=99m also not sure how setting up a rig in a room full of books =
is going to work for a remote exam. I=E2=80=99m thinking about setting =
up in a Sunday school room down at the church, far away from people and =
where the room only has chairs.=20

I appreciate comments and suggestions!

Thanks!
=

=============================================================== From: Billy ------------------------------------------------------ Disclaimer; I work for Red Hat. Cant give you details on the test, by policy, and also b/c I haven=E2=80=99t= taken it since RHEL6. But these things have helped me with most RH exams: * don=E2=80=99t over think it * only accomplish the task that was asked * don=E2=80=99t add extra security (if not asked don=E2=80=99t set the fw, c= hange permissions to be more secure, or add stuff that might be your default= hardening or sanity config) * if not asked to disable SELinux- don=E2=80=99t do it. * time management is key: similar to a standardized test * work low hanging fruit first, then work up to more difficult tasks. * If you spend more than 10 mins or so on a task, pause it and continue othe= r things if you can * go back to the things you didn=E2=80=99t finish previously * reboot often - make sure you enabled it for reboot, and make sure it comes= up properly after boot. * before you submit: reboot and check everything - twice. Ex: Reboot and che= ck, then reboot and check. What happens after you submit is: * VM is rebooted * automated tests connect to the VM * each task is scored and graded via automation * if it can=E2=80=99t connect, or if the service is down or didn=E2=80=99t s= tart, all the tasks that depend on that service are marked incomplete. * if you renamed or used a different directory or file name, it won=E2=80=99= t be found, and the task will be marked as incomplete. * if you added extra security and the automation user doesn=E2=80=99t have r= ights to augment permissions, or read a file, or run a command, then those t= asks will be marked incomplete * all completed tasks are tallied and that=E2=80=99s your score. --b e to =3D ks =3D ing =3D

=============================================================== From: Jonathan Calloway ------------------------------------------------------ Billy, This is very insightful.=20 I have done the ROL =E2=80=9Caccelerated=E2=80=9D course. I am now = going through the sample tests in this book: = https://www.amazon.com/RHCSA-Red-Enterprise-Linux-UPDATED/dp/1775062147/re= f=3Dsr_1_3?crid=3DOZXNRQ7059E0&keywords=3Drhcsa+8&qid=3D1641675385&sprefix= =3Drhcsa+8%2Caps%2C145&sr=3D8-3 = I felt I did well enough to pass the first one but went through and = visited all fo the exercises listed for each task anyway. The second exam (Appendix B) felt like the author didn=E2=80=99t put as = much effort into it. Some of the tasks were vague and others worded in = such a way that left me with questions. The other thing that has me a little bothered is the fact that there are = a few things that keep coming up in these practice exams that I cannot = figure out how to grok them given available documentation (i.e. man = pages and anything else in /usr/share/doc). An example is how to create = a repo file in order to use BaseOS and AppStream via the mounted install = DVD. I=E2=80=99m guessing I just need to memorize that! If there are better same tests out there, I am open to suggestions!
