Centos {Rant}

From: Jonathan Calloway ------------------------------------------------------ All, I=E2=80=99m going to go on a little bit of a rant. I=E2=80=99m sorry if = this has been covered before, but now that I see that Mr. Dixon is = active on this list, I want to de-compress. Also, I will admit, there = may be a little Scotch involved! I have grown quite weary and grieved with all of the Linux based tech = media declaring the death of CentOS. The original announcement was = quite clear as to what is taking place. If anything, it puts CentOS in = a better place i.e. closer to the production version of RHEL. I get two = impressions from all the eulogies I=E2=80=99ve heard and read. The = first one is that nobody seems to understand what a rolling distribution = is, much less what =E2=80=9Cstreams=E2=80=9D are. Secondly, I get the = distinct impression that everyone is whiney over a perceived loss of an = OS they are comfortable running in production that they don=E2=80=99t = want to pay for. While I=E2=80=9Cm grateful for Red Hat=E2=80=99s = kindness (it=E2=80=99s really going to benefit my home lab), I guess I = get a little peeved when people unnecessarily overreact to change.=20 ================================================================ From: Dave Brockman ------------------------------------------------------ f this has nd Secondly, I =80=99s kindness tle If they really want to run stable, non-rolling, quickly out of date software for free, they can always run Debian :) Cheers, -Dave
