I can't speak to Ham radios but the Weather Radio App is great for the =
iPhone and will give you alerts based on your location.

I'm looking for radio model and brand recommendations.

Weather Alert (NOAA) is a must.

HAM Radio capabilities would be cool.

Given the experience on Easter Sunday night, I've decided that I need to =
get a weather radio - Hamilton County didn't send any alerts over the =
cellular network, and the only reason I found out about the tornado was =
because my Google Pixel non-Verizon phone alerted me and woke me up. =
Neither my work phone, nor my wife's phone (both iPhone and Verizon) =
alerted us.

(We lost 2 trees in our yard, and were probably only about 3-5 miles =
away from the actual tornado. It was pretty intense, but besides the =
gutter on 1 side of my garage, my dog's fence, and those 2 trees, we got =

Given my eventual desire to get a HAM radio, I got to thinking....
Can a HAM radio double as a Weather Alert radio? I'm sure that a HAM =
would double as a weather monitoring radio (just listen to the weather =
bands whenever I want), but wasn't sure about actual alerting.=20

=20

I also don't want to be woken up in the middle of the night over a mere =
thunderstorm warning, or even a flood warning (since I live near the top =
of a hill away from any creeks and such... we basically have no flood =
danger here).
