=============================================================== From: Sean Brewer ------------------------------------------------------ If git weren't decentralized I would care more. It's pretty easy to mirror your repository, or move it away, or whatever. IMHO I think this is more of a move to acquire developer mindshare than anything. =============================================================== From: Mike Harrison ------------------------------------------------------ Sadly, a good summary. But I know companies that pay for “private” for things that need to be better locked up. I run a GitLab server, so I figure the Russians.. Well, anyway. Guess you gotta kinda trust something. I can’t sniff and decode all the packets. ;)

=============================================================== From: Dan Lyke ------------------------------------------------------ So semi-related: I would like to sing the praises of gitosis. It makes setting up multi-contributor SSH easy. Still requires an admin to put the .pub key files in the right place, and control who has write rights, but if you've got mostly private or small number of contributor repos, and are just using the Git (eg: not the issue tracking or other stuff), it's nice and clean.

=============================================================== From: Dave Brockman ------------------------------------------------------ Thanks, I'll have to give it a look. I have been using gitolite to manage access/permissions, same deal, admin has to put the .pub key files in the right places. --dtb X19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX19fX18KQ2h1Z2FsdWcg bWFpbGluZyBsaXN0CkNodWdhbHVnQGNodWdhbHVnLm9yZwpodHRwOi8vY2h1Z2FsdWcub3JnL2Nn aS1iaW4vbWFpbG1hbi9saXN0aW5mby9jaHVnYWx1Zwo=
