Chatt's first edcamp coming up in August, 2014

From: Phil Shapiro

Edcamp's are wonderful unconferences where teachers and others who care about learning
gather together and spontaneously share questions and answers in sessions that are determined
on the morning of the event. I recently found out about this edcamp taking place in Chatt.

"The first edcamp in Chattanooga, TN, will be held August 23, 2014. Free. All invited. Follow at @ edcampGigCity "

Thanks for spreading the word to anyone you know who would be interested in attending.

If you know folks in Atlanta who might want to attend, it's possible to reserve a round trip Megabus ticket
for that day for a grand total of $8. If a person is able to travel on Friday, August 22, 2014 -- the round
trip ticket to Chatt would be $2.

Ruby Dev

From: Mike Harrison

I just met an above average Ruby and Ruby on Rails guy from Australia
whome just moved to Chattanooga from Sydney Australia so his wife could be
closer to home.

He has an impressive resume and a deeper than "just a rails dev" set of
skills. He is also entertaining leaving Chattanooga because finding a good
job in his core skill set is difficult,

I'm posting his resume (text extract) in hope the Chugalug Gestalt can
keep a guy like this in Chattanooga. He's only been here a few weeks and
dispite all the GigCity buzz, can't find a fit for his caliber.

The bad text formatting is my fault.. his PDF resume is pretty neat and

Rock on. I'll be blogging more about Chatt, so keep me in the loop about any interesting stuff that I might include in future blog posts. Also, if there are any videographers in the group, I'd love to link to a video showing that movable statue located near The Chattanoogan -- ideally with a child having fun moving the wheel. You folks produce very cool stuff in Chatt, but you need to be documenting it more in YouTube videos.

Okay, I've formed an image of the video that's needed: A kid having fun moving the wheel of the statue (and showing the statue moving itself) -- with an older couple walking by -- arm in arm -- observing the situation with a smile. You can easily hire older couples from (heh)

Naturally, hide a small penguin somewhere in the video shot -- not too obvious. Maybe in the opening of the video for a second or two as the camera pans across to the statue. Not obvious! Subtle. Maybe a college student carrying some books in their arms -- including a small stuffed penguin, or somesuch.

EPB / GigCity Question:

From: Mike Harrison

re: GigCity / EPB

I just got asked privately a question I don't know the answer to.

Does anyone know what the peak total upstream EPB has currently?

"Mike do you know the answer to this?

If EPB says they got 1 gig is that only locally ? So when they hit the
backbone what speed is the EPB customer going to get in reality? I
recall 48 MB as a backbone connection or something but that was years
