GPGtools and Keyservers?

From: Mike Harrison

I'm playing around with GPGtools on a Mac, and am impressed by how easy it
makes Mac's Mail do PGP/GPG. I'm just hoping it's actually secure right

It's using hkp:// for a keyserver,

And I seem to be finding some OLD pubic keys for people I know,
but not the current ones.

My Q:

Are ther other/better key servers to use?

Have people stopped using them and share public keys directly?

If so, what's the preferred method, a URL to a public key?
    attached to an email?
