New case (Mostly OT)

From: John Aldrich
I just bought a new case and only the front fans are working at this time due
to not having any power taps on the motherboard for case fans. I have to say,
this is a sweet case... My system which WAS running hot is now running just
fine, according to KSensors in Linux.
I got a Carbide 500R off NewEgg and I already love it. It's got plugs for USB
on the front panel, and my motherboard already had sockets for those, so I now
have two more USB connectors. :D
I also finally got around to putting the Intel GigE Ethernet card in there as
well, so now all three computers are at GigE. I had to search online to remind
myself how to manually configure the network so that I have a static IP as my
router doesn't offer the option to assign a static via DHCP. :(

=============================================================== From: Bret McHone ------------------------------------------------------ he is probably referring to a DHCP reservation.

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Quoting Bret McHone : Exactly that, Bret. Sorry...should have said it better. I wish my router had the option to do DHCP "reservations" but it doesn't. Without flashing it to DDWRT or OpenWRT (which I don't really feel like doing) I can't do reservations. :(

=============================================================== From: William Wade ------------------------------------------------------ Which router do you have? It is odd to see one that does not support DHCP reservations.

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Quoting William Wade : Yeah. I know... This is a *relatively* new Cisco/Linksys router (a couple years old.) I looked at it just yesterday trying to find DHCP reservations, but the only thing I could find was port-mapping / forwarding, and since I had a number of ports forwarded to a specific IP address, I didn't want to have to redo those. I suppose I could have overlooked the DHCP reservations, but I checked in the DHCP table area, and didn't see anything about that. I know my previous router (non-wireless) offered that, so it's kind of strange that a wireless router won't do that. It may just be something that's not enabled in this version of the firmware. I probably ought to verify that I have the latest and greatest firmware revision anyway.

=============================================================== From: wes ------------------------------------------------------ what is the model number? -wes

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ OK. Just got home. It's a WRT54GS2-VI. As I said, it MAY have a way to do DHCP reservations, just not sure where.

=============================================================== From: William Wade ------------------------------------------------------ Looks like the internet says that that model does not have it. That is really odd.
