=============================================================== From: Rod-Lists ------------------------------------------------------ Dave, I been hearing about postfix plus dovecot. Wes, SSMTP might in other situation but this one I expect several contact forms that will need to be forwarded. ----- Dave Brockman wrote:

=============================================================== From: Dave Brockman ------------------------------------------------------ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Postfix is your SMTP. If you relay to a proper mail server your Postfix requires the following: relayhost = my.mailserver.com:25 You *could* do it per-domain via /etc/postfix/transport[1] domain1.com smtp:my.mailserver.com:25 domain2.com smtp:my.otherserver.com:25 domain3.com smtp:[192.168.1.25:25] (enclosing in brackets forces DNS lookup bypass) Otherwise, it should only listen locally, the webserver and associated processes can talk to 127.0.0.1 all day long and never exposing SMTP to the Intertubez on your HTTP server at all. Dovecot is your MDA/LDA/POP/IMAP services. Not needed per your original description. I believe SSMTP was the default on Gentoo 2006-2008 timeframe, if so, then I am familiar with it. It is literally just a relay only service, and if I'm still on the right track, I had issues with deliveries to some mail server or other, although if I am still on the right track, it was most likely Exchange. [1] - I know I said you COULD do that. You don't actually WANT to do that based on your presented description.
