From: Garrett Gaston

Below is what I'M getting in my terminal while running cgminer. Does this l=
ook right? Am I mining anything at all?=20

What does "Stratume from pool 0 detected new block mean"=2C and why is it w=
aiting for a USB hotplug device?

Also I'M running Bitcon - Wallet and though the program seems to me running=
fine the terminal in the background shows this message: "sni-qt/8540" WARN=

=============================================================== From: Matt Keys ------------------------------------------------------ cgminer stats ( (5s):0.000 (avg):0.000h/s ) show it isn't mining anything, and your est pool rewards and hash rate should move beyond 0 (slowly) if your clients are actively working. What hardware are you trying to use? If you didn't use --enable-cpumining as a compile option it won't cpu mine. It's waiting for usb because things like the bfl single are usb attached. You probably had --enable-bitforce as a compile option or it just watches for usb devices by default. Stratum from pool 0 I think is just a benign message--the pool is now working on a new block and so are you as a worker in the pool. You should save your config so you don't have to retype all that at launch. Here's an example cpu miner config ~/.cgminer/cgminer.conf : { "pools" : [ { "url" : "http://pool.example.com:8337", "user" : "some

=============================================================== From: Garrett Gaston ------------------------------------------------------ Just using my Mint Linux Desktop. Never thought getting into bitcoins would= be this complicated and fraught with peril. =============================================================== From: Matt Keys ------------------------------------------------------ lol it's not! That script I sent you should work for cpu mining or if you've ordered anything from butterfly labs. : #!/bin/bash sudo apt-get install libcurl4-openssl-dev libncurses5-dev pkg-config libtool yasm build-essential automake autoconf git openssh-server screen -y cd ~ git clone https://github.com/ckolivas/cgminer cd cgminer ./autogen.sh --enable-cpumining --enable-bitforce make sudo make install For GPU mining there's a few more steps defined in the cgminer README.
