Beersmith for Linux

From: John Aldrich
------------------------------------------------------
Did you guys know that there's a version of BeerSmith for Linux? Granted
it's only .DEB files for now, but I've emailed the BeerSmith folks and
offered to help package RPMs. :D

=============================================================== From: Lynn Dixon ------------------------------------------------------ John, In the meantime you could try alien to "convert" those .debs to .rpm. I have used it in the past and it works well.

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Good point! I forgot about that! :D Thanks, Lynn!

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Ok...so next question...where does one /find/ Alien for Fedora 18? It doesn't seem to be available in the standard REPOs. :( I just asked a few minutes ago on the Fedora/RedHat list, but that list is EXTREMELY high traffic, so my question (and any answers) will probably get lost. If anyone knows, please feel free to send me a message off-list. Or on-list. I don't care. :D

=============================================================== From: "Chris St. Pierre" ------------------------------------------------------ The ever-useful pkgs.org is not aware of a Fedora 18 package. Oh! You could grab the alien .deb package and just use alien to convert it! :P

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Quoting "Chris St. Pierre" : Well, I /do/ have an Ubuntu laptop. I suppose I could install the Alien .DEB file there and use that to create an Alien RPM. That being said, there was a post on the Fedora list that the package naming conventions between Fedora and Debian-based distributions are not necessarily compatible so it may or may not be able to supply the requirements. :( Maybe the BeerSmith folks will allow me to create RPMs for them.. if so, I may need some help building a SPEC file to build the RPMs.

=============================================================== From: "Chris St. Pierre" ------------------------------------------------------ I will happily trade specfile assistance for a bottle or two of homebrew! :D Totally OT: The farm in Clinton I got fresh hops from last year replanted this year, so they're not sure if they'll have enough to bring to market. Do you know of anyone in Chattanooga who farms hops? The APA I made with them was *amazing*.

=============================================================== From: John Aldrich ------------------------------------------------------ Quoting "Chris St. Pierre" : Chris, there is a local home brew club, the "Barley Mob." Send an email to brewers (at) barleymob.com and introduce yourself. I know there are several folks who farm hops.
