I had my Mint Linux up an running when power when off for about 5 seconds a=
nd now my system is acting funny. When I launch the terminal there is a bli=
nking cursor but there is not prompt showing my user name and location=2C n=
or is there a '$' or a "#'=2C is just blank. Also none of the commands or w=
orking. I also had Valve's steam running when I lost power=2C now as soon a=
s it start it up it shuts down almost immediately Any ideas what I can do =
to fix this problem? I tried browsing through the log files in /var/log but=
I don't know what I'M looking for or which files I should be paying attent=
ion to. =

=============================================================== From: David White ------------------------------------------------------ Sounds to me like you may have had a power surge. About 30 minutes ago, my power blinked (very quickly, less than 1/2 a second, almost didn't notice it, but my surge protector clicked on & off). Not sure if that's also when you lost power....

=============================================================== From: "kitepilot@kitepilot.com" ------------------------------------------------------ Garrett, first of, boot your puter with a live CD and: fsck /dev/{all your partitions} If you don't have any errors, then create a directory: ~/DOT.junk And move to it all your ~/.directories You doon't need to move the all but it is easier than to discriminate them. If that fixes the problem, then you can restore SOME of those ~/DOT.junk DO NOT move into ~/DOT.junk any .bash* or .profile. Free adfvice, you can't sue me... :) ET PS: As usual, if you have any question you will get any answer... Garrett Gaston writes:
