Open Source Asset Tracking

From: Chris Mowery
We currently use an Access database to track our PC, Printer, and Network
Device inventory. It was created sometime before my time here, and we have
really outgrown it.Ideally a replacement would be a web-based php/mysql
style app to make it easy to deal with.

Does anyone use or know of any open source Asset Tracking software? IT
specific is good, but if it is a configurable generic system that would
work to, as we could allow other departments to use it.

Thank you,
Chris Mowery

=============================================================== From: Eric Wolf ------------------------------------------------------ I've been using a Google Spreadsheet lately. Our company has a custom asset tracking system but it was designed to track individual assets and not clusters of assets as we actually employ them. You could build something using Google Forms... -Eric -=--=---=----=----=---=--=-=--=---=----=---=--=-=- Eric B. Wolf 720-334-7734

=============================================================== From: Chris Mowery ------------------------------------------------------ I thought of using a Google Form with a Spreadsheet backend to make it work better than it is now. One thing I'd really like to do is have some kind of audit functionality. Currently when something is "moved" the field just changes value, I'd like to save that previous record. Same with deleting items. I am really tempted to work with our web developer to build something, but I don't know if I have time for that. Chris

=============================================================== From: Eric Wolf ------------------------------------------------------ Google Spreadsheets provides versioning but I'm not sure how hard it would be to, say, add a "move it back" button that interrogates the versioning and sets the "location" to the prior version. -Eric -=--=---=----=----=---=--=-=--=---=----=---=--=-=- Eric B. =============================================================== From: Chris Mowery ------------------------------------------------------ That might not be necessary, I'll keep that in mind, I'd not actually played with versioning in Docs before. Thanks!
