I don't actually know what version of Android it is. I bought it brand new =
and it has never asked me if I just wanted to power it or not. I contacted =
Samsung and they did tell me that it would not work with Linux. I'M sure th=
ere are ways but they at least gave it no support themselves. I am so frust=
rated with the lack of support and development for Linux=2C when and if I e=
ver learn to program myself I think I'M going to make a point to only write=
for Linux=2C no playing nice with cross platform development. I am going t=
o get my tab now an check out what your telling me. Even if Android or Sams=
ung failed to give adequate support for Linux=2C you'd thing there'd be an =
app for connecting to Linux.

I know about MTP. I am just suggesting an alternative possibility. Possibly=
even worth a minute and a half of your time to check the settings.
While I don't have a Galaxy Tab to test with=2C it isn't that new. It shoul=
d still support USB Mass Storage. What version of android do you have insta=
lled on it?

Garrett=2CThats exactly what we have been saying. Most of the newer Androi=
d devices that ship with onboard storage (and no card slot) will normally s=
how up as MTP=2C and NOT mass storage. There are several reasons why=2C bu=
t the most important one is to keep users from jacking up the android syste=
m files=2C on a routine USB connection. =20

I'M pretty sure it has something to do with mtp. Apparently android devices=
no longer show up as mass storage.

try plugging it in while you have the tablet unlocked. the tablet should po=
p a window asking if you want it to Charge Only=2C or act as a Mass Storage=
Device. If it does not=2C the problem is in the tablet.
perhaps in the past this option was presented to someone=2C and they chose =
Charge Only=2C and selected "don't ask again" ?

I don't really know what you mean by setting it as a media device or a came=

what I've read it doesn't show up in /dev either.

No most androids are going to the MTP protocol. My galaxy tab 10.1 shows up=
fine on rhel and Fedora when I install libmtp packages=20

I thought any Android device when plugged in could act as a mass
