BOUNTY: Build me a Mozilla Thunderbird extension for cash

From: Phil Sieg
------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to switch my staff back to Ubuntu from OS X. I have only ONE =
hurdle: Mac Mail will play audio attachments inside the client without =
the need to open an external app, or download the file to your =
desktop/folder etc. REALLY nice feature when all of your voicemails are =
sent via email.

There are no Linux (or Windows for that matter) email clients with this =
functionality. Somebody wrote an extension for Chrome that would let it =
play .wav file inside of gmail (webmail), however the extension seems to =
be broken now.

My Asterisk system sends .wav files and I need to be able to play them =
directly from the email client.

Looking for out of work or bored geek to solve this problem for me and =
get paid. Pay depends on difficulty and who owns the finished product. =
Since the whole reason to do this is to free me from Apple hardware (yes =
I said that, but I have a good reason) I have a top budget number of =
$500, I I own the finished product, and u bet I will be putting up a =
paypal button to try and recoup some of my investment. If you own it, I =
pay less, and you get the paypal button.

For what it is worth, there seems to be a LOT of people that need/want =
this for the same voicemail-to-email reason that I need it.

=============================================================== From: Sean Brewer ------------------------------------------------------ The HTML5 audio tag supports WAV, mp3, and ogg. If you could embed the mp3s instead of attaching them (or even embedding and attaching), then I know for sure that works in Apple Mail, and probably even GMail. Basically, what would happen is you would embed a data URI of the audio (base64 encoding of the audio, which is not hard to do at all), in your audio tag in your e-mail and you could play it from there. d he w ey

=============================================================== From: James Nylen ------------------------------------------------------ Depends on the browser. Last I checked, MP3 doesn't work in Firefox or Opera, Ogg doesn't work in Safari, and WAV works everywhere. I highly doubt that the audio tag works in most of the Linux mail clients.

=============================================================== From: Sean Brewer ------------------------------------------------------ The video tag has worked in Thunderbird for a *long* time. If the video tag works, the audio tag should.

=============================================================== From: James Nylen ------------------------------------------------------ It will still depend on the HTML rendering engine being used. Thunderbird uses Gecko which doesn't support MP3 audio. See the chart on this page: http://www.w3schools.com/html5/html5
