The 2 years I spent in a dotNot shop were very educational.  

That  was 7 years ago and I'm still in therapy.

Part of the problem with .NET that I've observed at work is that VS does SO much stuff in the background for the programmer that they have no idea what's going on in their own programs, especially if they've never used anything else. If there's not a wizard or something that does it for them, they don't know how to do it for themselves. 

On the other hand, if you do know what you're doing(and what it's doing behind your back), then the framework does come with batteries, kitchen sinks, RVs, and ham radios included, plus C# seems fairly nice as a language. 

The GNOME folks seem to be in love with Mono these days. They even copied C# and called it Vala.
