OpenVPN, then IPSEC.. 

OpenVPN on pfSense 2.x+ is stable, has nice integration and clients that work on everything: Mac, iOS, Android and especially Linux
with nearly idiotproof config file exporting. 

For "temporary" use… you can do some pretty amazing things with SSH but you might notice the CPU Load. 

And yeah, I've got "temporary" in one place lasting a year and a half..

Anything with Checkpoint in the name is weird and semi-proprietary.
