Even after installing lshw, typing "lshw -c net" didn't get me anything, so I
ran it as follows: "lshw | grep net" and came up with the following:
[john at slave1 ~]$ sudo lshw | grep net
          description: Ethernet interface
          product: MCP61 Ethernet
          capabilities: bridge

Doesn't tell me a whole lot. :(

That being said, I was looking around for information on the MCP61 Ethernet
and found mention of another tool, ethtool, which I ran against ETH0 and came
up with this:
Settings for eth0:
        Supported ports: [ MII ]
        Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
        Supported pause frame use: No
        Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
        Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
        Advertised pause frame use: No
        Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
        Speed: 100Mb/s
        Duplex: Full
        Port: MII
        PHYAD: 1
        Transceiver: external
        Auto-negotiation: on
        Supports Wake-on: g
        Wake-on: d
        Link detected: yes
So, it appears that this on-board NIC can only do 100 Mbit. :(
