http://www.ubuntu.org is guaranteed to wipe out those pesky windows 
Viruses. As are a lot of other Linux distributions. Mint seens reasonanbly 
"windows like".

If the price of a good anti-virus (< $100 USD) is an issue, they should 
not be running a Microsoft product to begin with.

Personally, I haven't seen a Microsoft product in > 1 month. It's been a 
good month.
